Marker Space Grant from HTRS School Foundation
MakerSpace is an area in Mrs. Frey’s 3rd grade classroom that is reserved for creative exploration, engineering, tinkering, and inventing. The students are able to create projects that incorporate engineering materials, crafting materials, technology, robotics, and more.
The HTRS Public Schools Foundation approved a grant to bring “Maker Space” to our classroom. Our students are able to use these materials at least once a week to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) topics. Our classroom received KEVA planks, KEVA Maker Bot Maze, Straws and Connectors, Snap Circuit Jr. kits, and a Young Architect set. Our teacher also added art and craft materials, and math and science manipulatives. Students also bring in donations of recyclables, like toilet paper tubes, craft items, and other things they can use for their projects.
Students use higher order thinking skills, multiple intelligences, and their individual strengths to create projects. Students will also do research projects and create hands-on examples or models to share their knowledge.
Thank you to the HTRS Foundation for your support in these endeavors! The students in our classroom say this is their favorite time of the week!
